He hit the fucking nail on the head except I don’t think this is final. I loved seeing so many people caring about the insanity of SOPA and PIPA. I’m sure by now most of you know what these are, the piracy part is honestly just the wolf’s sheep coat.
The internet is probably the only place publicly we can fully use our right to the First Amendment, and by censoring it they could keep us in the dark if things continue to get more chaotic… they could block foreign sites, and they could push lawsuits on companies that are one of the few things not failing in our economy and bankrupt them. They could take down wordpress if we posted links to youtube, if they wanted to.
My uncle owns a small music business and he has been affected a lot in the past decade of illegal downloading, but as a conservative I’m pretty sure he opposes this… I’m not really sure WHO endorses it, I haven’t seen many artists loving the idea of it. There is no way to police the internet, they try with disgusting things like child pornography already but obviously you can’t get rid of them all (though I’d like to get rid of every person who has created one personally). Even so, that is a black and white issue, it’s clear. Piracy…. or what they are calling it, is not. The only way to eradicate it all is to use “probable cause” and then wait around while they will bankrupt your site, nevermind if it was completely legal in the first place.
What I really fear is us losing the freedom of communication worldwide we have, the one thing that can connect us from every edge of the world. The one way we can compare different versions of the news to find the truth. It is our power as millions, and it scares them we have that..
